Students protest delay in NEET-PG results
REPORT THAT CAME IN TODAY'S TIMES OF INDIA

PANAJI: A group of students who recently graduated from the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Goa Dental College conducted a peaceful protest at Azad Maidan, Panaji, holding placards on Monday. The students were a part of a nationwide strike to "protest delays by the Supreme Court regarding the verdict on theNational Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET)-post graduation (PG) results which has stalled their careers".

"Currently, the case has been pending in the court for the last five months leaving the medical and dental students in a dilemma over whether to wait for the results or start practising due to the non-declaration of the NEET-PG results," said Nakul Tikare, an MBBS graduate from GMC. His colleague Sasmit Lotliker, said they were extending their support to the nationwide protests held across various states such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, among others.

Nikhil Kamat, who led Monday's agitation, explained that the NEET-PG exam was conducted from November 23 to December 6, 2012, and the proposed date for declaration of results was January 31, 2013. He added that the "spirit" of the NEET exam was defeated when the Supreme Court allowed the various private medical colleges and states to conduct their own exams but not announce the results until a final judgment, as per a notice dated December 12, 2012, due to opposition. tnn
